Margaret Herz

Hastings resident, Margaret A. Herz, 85, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Sunday, August 26, 2012; 7:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Father Christopher Miller officating. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 27, 2012; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, August 25, 2012; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Sunday, August 26, 2012; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Margaret was born August 31, 1926 in Juniata, Nebraska to Leslie & Irene (Morosic) Stone. Margaret was raised in the Indianola, Nebraska area, moving to Lawrence, Nebraska after her high school graduation. This is where she met her husband of 52 years, Norbert "Nub" C. Herz. They were married October 16, 1946, residing in Hastings their entire married life. To this union were born three sons, Jerry, Terry, and Larry; and one daughter, Ann, who died shortly after birth. Margaret began working at the Harvard Air Base in Harvard, Nebraska in 1945 as clerical support. She then worked for the Navy Base in Hastings, Strategic Air Command, Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, and the Hastings Regional Center until her retirement. Margaret was very active with National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed doing crafts, making things for her family, visiting with her family and friends, and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert "Nub" Herz; daughter, Ann Herz; grandson, Michael Herz; mother, Irene Blume; father, Leslie Stone; and brother, Kenneth Stone.
