Margaret Meyer

June 10, 1913 — July 4, 2005

Former Hastings resident, Margaret Meyer, 92, of Northbrook, Illinois, died Monday, July 4, 2005 at Covenant Village, Northbrook, Illinois.

Memorial service will be Tuesday, July 12, 2005; 11:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Frank Kerkemeyer officiating. Private family interment at Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska.

Born June 10, 1913, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to William and Lucy (Corning) Temps. She was baptized in 1913, confirmed April 10, 1927, at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska.

Graduated in 1931 from Hastings High School. Married August 19, 1931, to John Meyer Jr. of Hastings. They were married 63 years at the time of John's passing in 1998. Member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Sang in choir for many years. Sunday school teacher since she was in high school. Superintendent of Primary Department and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School.

Helped organize and taught in a Week Day Bible School for 5th and 6th grades at St. Paul's, held on Saturday morning.

Was Principal of Lincoln School Summer Bible School, a school in City Wide Bible School programs held in city schools.

President of PTA council. On board of Hastings Community Concerts. President of Women of the Church for two years, during which time the organization became United Lutheran Church Women - On the synodical Board - Then President of Northwest Conference. While living in Grand Island was President of Church Women United. Worked for Schweser's in Grand Island and also at the Hastings store. Was a pink lady at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital-received 2000 hour pin. Made many sweaters and gowns for Lutheran World Relief -Also knitted stocking caps for homeless.

Nine months ago she moved to be near her family in the Chicago area and lived at Covenant Village in Northbrook, Illinois. There she quickly became a vital and energetic part of the community, volunteering at the gift shop, agreeing to serve on the Residents Council and ministering daily to those around her.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for her faith , love and compassion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucy Temps; her husband, John Meyer Jr.; her brother, William Temps Jr.; and two sisters, Edna Wallinger and Wilma Calkins.

She is survived by:
