Trumbull resident Margaret “Peg” Rystrom, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 15, at Evangelical Free Church in Hastings with Pastor Matt Sass officiating. The burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 15, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with the family present 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the National Kidney Foundation, an organization Peg felt strongly about. The service will be live-streamed at https://bit.ly/pegrystrom.
Peg was born December 26, 1941, in York, NE to Lyle and Effie Etter. She graduated from Bradshaw High School and attended LPN school at Kearney. Peg married Ken Rystrom on May 26, 1960. They lived northwest of York until 1967 when they moved to a farm northeast of Hastings. Peg worked at Herberger's for 25 ½ years, the last seven as the office manager before retiring in 2005.
Peg was active in the Kidney Foundation and served as state secretary. Her work with the Kidney Foundation included facilitating booths at Adams, Clay, York, and Hamilton County Fairs. This passion was fueled by her experience in navigating her own son, Greg’s rare kidney disease. For three years, she took Greg to Omaha and then later to Aurora three times a week for dialysis treatments.
Peg had many interests. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband for many years. Peg was quite the seamstress and loved to make her own clothes including matching square dance outfits for her and her husband. In the summers, she enjoyed gardening. She was known for making some mean salsa, canning, and freezing produce from the fruits of her garden labor. One of her greatest joys was baking pies, cookies, and other desserts for the family to enjoy! Her grandchildren knew the sour cream tubs in the freezer really contained cookies and they never hesitated to request their favorites! Peg also loved taking trips to the mountains and spending time with her family.
Peg was a devoted member of the Hastings Evangelical Free Church. She prayed earnestly for her family members and friends and relied on her faith to the very end.
Peg is survived by her husband; sons, Scott (Shelley) and Mark (Tamela); six grandchildren, Erin Huth, Piper (Dustin Jacobsen), Markus (fiancée-Shelby), Tori, Darby, and Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Titus, Kiptyn, Paisley, and Isla; and sister, Cathy Epp. She is preceded in death by her son, Greg; parents; great-granddaughter, Tinleigh; and sister, Carol.
