Hastings resident, Margaret "Eeny" Schafer, 90, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Monday, March 12, 2012; 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, March 14, 2012; 11:00 A.M. in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, March 10, 2012; 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M., Sunday, March 11, 2012; 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret was born January 19, 1922 in Timberlake, South Dakota to Joseph "Hardy" & Annis "Edna" (Barto) Carder. She lived in Hastings from 1943-1976 then moved to Grand Island and back to Hastings in 1986. Her work included owning and operating cafes at the Naval Ammunition Depot, Pastime Bowl and working at the Hastings College Cafeteria where she retired from in 1995. She also worked at the Hastings Regional Center as a Psych Tech. Margaret married Mel Schafer in 1988 and Mel Cox in 1997 both preceded her in death. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, D.O.E.S., Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Margaret "Eeny" Schafer was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Mel Schafer and Mel Cox; daughter, Dixie Mosel; sisters, Harriette Noel, Evelyn Hantey, Vera LaPlante, and Mildred McClelland; and brothers, Clarence Carder, Wesley Carder and Bob Carder.
