Hastings resident, Margaret A. Hinrichs Shaw, 62, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011.
Services will be Wednesday, April 6, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home Chapel Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, Southwest of Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday April 4, 2011; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Tuesday April 5, 2011; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials will be shared among the many organizations Margaret supported.
Margaret was born April 16, 1948 in Hastings, Nebraska to Henry C. Sr. and Martha L. (Hoefer) Hinrichs. She graduated from Glenvil High School in 1966 and Grand Island Business College. She married Lloyd Shaw on June 6, 1987 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Southwest of Hastings, Nebraska. She was a case worker for over forty years at Health and Human Services in Hastings. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Southwest of Hastings and was on the church council. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Glenvil where she served as president. She was a member of the Kiwanis and was a coordinator for their pancake feed where she was known as the "Pancake Queen". She was also involved with the Kiwanis programs Kids Against Hunger and Young Children Priority One. She started the Food Pantry in Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties, and served on the Food Pantry board in Adams County. She was in the VFW Auxiliary in Deweese, Nebraska. She was the coordinator for the Bloodmobile in Glenvil and Sandy Creek High School, and was on the Brain Team in Hastings. She was also the co-founder of the Giving Tree in Clay Center, and a Hastings Tribune Good Fellows worker. She was the secretary for the Glenvil alumni association and was the Adams County YWCA Tribute to Women recipient in 1998.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Lou Hinrichs; three half brothers, Klaas Hinrichs, Henry Hinrichs, Jr., and Martin Hinrichs; and one half sister, Helena Kemper.
