Marie Kumke

Hastings resident, Marie W. Kumke, 97, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, July 9, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, July 8, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Village or Faith Lutheran Church.

Marie was born August 16, 1912 in Garland, Nebraska to Adolph E. & Ida Marie (Hartman) Haase. On August 25, 1912 she was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garland, Nebraska. She was confirmed on May 16, 1926 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska. She attended school at District #6 in Nuckolls County where she graduated from 8th grade on May 13, 1927. She attended one year of high school through her 9th grade graduation. On January 1, 1941, she married Frank Paul Kumke. They were married for 49 years. Frank preceded her in death on April 9, 1990. She was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and vacation bible school, and held church meetings in her home before the church was built. She loved to participate in church work and always reminded others how Christ suffered for us.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Paul Kumke; brothers, Reinhold "Bob", Edward, Richard, Walter, Hugo, Gerhart, and Harold; sisters, Valeska Lingelbach, Theresa Drohman, Wilma Meyer, and Ida Mae Schultz.
