Hastings resident, Marie A. Schifferns, 86, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Homestead, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Sunday, April 25, 2010; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 26, 2010; 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland, Nebraska with Father Thomas Au and Father Michael Houlihan. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Assumption, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, April 24, 2010; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Sunday, April 25, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Hospice Program.

Marie was born September 30, 1923 in Assumption, Nebraska to Leo & Mary (Wengler) Seyler. She married Walter Schifferns on January 25, 1943. Walter was KIA during World War II. She then married his brother; Arthur H. Schifferns on August 19, 1947 at the Assumption Church in Assumption, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2004. Marie was a homemaker for many years. Following all of her children's enrollment in school she was self employed as a painter/wall paper hanger. She later worked at Sophir Morris Paint store until her retirement. Marie moved from Roseland in 2007 to the Homestead in Hastings.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Walter Schifferns and Arthur Schifferns; three brothers; one sister; son, Vincent Schifferns; and granddaughter, Vanessa Schifferns.

Therese & Larry Craft - Hastings, NE
Gene & Cindy Schifferns - Papillion, NE
Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren
She is also survived by her extended family at the Homestead, including her special friends, Wanda Dahlsten and John Scholl.
