Former Hastings resident, Marion O. Simmons, 92, of Parson's House in Omaha, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Creighton Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, May 30, 2008; 2:00 P.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to the family. Visitation will be Thursday, May 29, 2008; 5P.M.-9P.M and Friday, May 30, 2008; 9A.M. until service time.
Mr. Simmons was born July 28, 1915 in Hastings, Nebraska to Marion B. & Flora (Palmer) Simmons. He served in the United States Navy from March 8, 1944 until December 19, 1945. On June 12, 1937, he married Wilma M. Dier in Tecumseh, Nebraska. He was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church. He moved from Hastings to Norfolk in 1971. He was a motor vehicle officer for the State of Nebraska for 9 years, retiring in 1981. In 1994, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of King of Kings Church and the American Legion. Marion loved gardening, fishing and could fix anything. He was a kind and gentle man, who put everyone and everything ahead of himself.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one son-in-law, Henry Deeds.
