Marjorie Bush

March 12, 1915 — December 13, 2009

Hastings resident, Marjorie E. (Genung) Bush, 94, of 1003 East 9th, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at her residence.

Services will be Wednesday, December 16, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. There will be an additional service Thursday, December 17, 2009; 2:00 P.M. at Atkinson United Methodist Church, Atkinson, with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert and Rev. Bonnie Forney officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings and one hour prior to service at Atkinson United Methodist Church, Atkinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church.

Marjorie was born March 12, 1915 in Holt County, Nebraska to Albert & Vera (Dickover) Tooker. She graduated from Atkinson High School in 1932, and then married L.T. Genung. They made their home on the Genung ranch near Atkinson. Marjorie taught school for many years, first in rural districts and then in the Atkinson, Albion, and Sandy Creek systems. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband L.T. on January 1, 1981, and she later married Laurence Bush of Denver, Colorado. After making Denver their home for many years they moved to Hastings to retire near her son, Tom. Laurence preceded her in death on December 20, 2001. Marjorie was a dedicated student her entire life. She held two doctorates, one in musical performance and the second in Library-Media. After returning to Hastings, she completed a Masters degree in teaching at Hastings College at the age of 85. Her Hastings memberships include Grace United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church Ruth Circle, and Gleaners Sunday School Class. She also was a member of Eastern Star Atkinson Chapter #186 and D. A. R. Evergreen Chapter in Ainsworth. While in Colorado her involvement with Optimist included, Charter President Columbine Optimist Club, Windsor Gardens Denver, First Woman Honor Club Distinguished President, Optimist International, First Woman Lieutenant Governor, Colorado - Wyoming District, First Woman President Luncheon Optimist Club, Windsor Gardens Denver and committee chairman.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, L.T. Genung and Laurence Bush; brother, John Tooker; and sister, Janice Denchfield.
