Hastings resident, Marjorie L. Johnson, 89, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, December 1, 2016; 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings with Pastor Kent Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2016; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

We gather to celebrate the life of Marjorie L. Johnson who was born September 15, 1927 in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to George W. & Olive (Long) Petitt. At age eight, her family moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota. In 1942, her family moved to Hastings, Nebraska where she graduated from Hastings Public High School in the class of 1945.

Marjorie worked for the Navy Department for ten years, from June 1945 until June 1955. In 1949, she moved to Washington D.C. and met John Randolph Jones, Jr., a U.S. Marine that ran up Iwo Jima in World War II and a reservist during the Korean War. They were married on November 6, 1953 in Washington D.C. To this union a son, Steven R. and a daughter, Laurie L. was born.

In 1965, the family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia due to a change of employment. Her husband, John R. died on July 7, 1966.

After her husband's death, Marjorie and children moved back to Hastings, Nebraska. She was employed in the office of Great Plains Chrysler Plymouth for a year. In 1968, she worked in the executive offices of J.M. McDonald Company until they closed in 1982.

On December 1, 1979, Marjorie married Noble Orval Johnson at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings. Noble farmed near Franklin, Nebraska for many years. He had two grown sons, Larry Ray and Douglas Gerald Johnson.

Marjorie took early retirement in 1982 when Wickes, the company that purchased J.M. McDonald Company, went bankrupt. Marjorie and Noble traveled until Noble passed away in March 1999.

Marjorie worked part-time at K-Mart in the fashion department from October 1993 until December 2006.
