Mark Zimmerman

Hastings resident Mark Russell Zimmerman, 62, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings with Rev. Marcus J. Mackay officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at Peace Lutheran Church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Monday with family present 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Mark was born January 26, 1956, in Fairbury, NE to Howard and Shirley (Loetterle) Zimmerman. He was baptized into Christ at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1974.

He married the love of his life, Lisa (Yurk), on September 17, 1988, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings.

Mark worked in the engineering department at Hastings Industries for over 40 years until his retirement in January of 2018. He enjoyed camping across Nebraska with his family, supporting his sons’ athletic endeavors in American Legion baseball, Hastings High football and Hastings College football, curling up with his dogs, singing, and spending time with his wife.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Walter and Irene Zimmerman, of Jansen, and Harry and Annette Loetterle, of Fairbury; father-in-law, Henry Yurk, of Hastings; many aunts and uncles; and his favorite grand-dog, Hody. Mark was with his other favorite dog, Sophia, at the time of his death.
