Martin Janssen

Hastings resident, Martin F. Janssen, 79, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at his home.

Services will be Wednesday, December 1, 2010; 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial with military rites will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 30, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Heartland Lutheran High School, LCMS Mission Central or Orphan Grain Train.

Martin was born December 1, 1930 in Inland, Nebraska to Henry & Ollie (Hinrikus) Janssen. He attended country grade school and Hastings High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for the past 23 years. He served in the Korean War with the 5th Army Field Artillery Unit from 1951 to 1953. He married Beverly Burns in 1955; they had two children and later divorced. He married Lorene (Frank) Shimek in Hastings on July 23, 1988. He farmed for a short time and then was employed as an auto body man and body shop manager for 50 years. He was the owner of Janssen Auto Body for the last 28 years. Martin enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, animals, and taking his car to car shows.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Raymond.
