Marvin Uden

Hastings resident, Marvin L. Uden, 69, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, October 24, 2014; 2:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, October 23, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Marvin L. Uden was born on April 23, 1945 in Hastings, Nebraska to Mary (Bayles) and Melvin Martin. He was later adopted by Glen Uden and was raised by Mary and Glen in rural Juniata. In 1965 he married Mary French. They had a daughter, Carmen and later divorced. On March 23, 1968 he married Janice Donovan. They had three children, Glenda, Nancie, and Marvin Jr.; Janice preceded him in death on February 26, 1996. Marvin married Wilma Brown on April 19, 1997. He was in the heating and air conditioning business all his adult life. Marvin started at Dial Heating in 1967. In 1978 he moved on to KT Heating & Air Conditioning, and in 1989 he went to Hastings Plumbing and Heating. He opened South Central Heating and Air on April 1, 1995. Marvin sold the business in early 2014 due to his illness. He was a member of the gas board for several years and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Marvin was a member of the Juniata United Methodist Church and was the President of Thursday night bowling league and a member of Hastings Bowling Association. When the kids were younger the family enjoyed camping and fishing. He was an avid bowler until his shoulder injury. Marvin shared his love of bowling with Jan, his children, and grandchildren. His grandchildren were a source of great pride to him.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Mary & Glen Uden and Melvin Martin; wife, Janice; brother, Ron; sister, Carol; and his beloved dog, Molly.
