Mary Elaine Garnick

Hastings resident Mary Elaine Garnick, 74, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, NE. 

Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26, at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Pastor Tamara Holtz officiating. There will be no burial held. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date and cards and memorials may be sent to the funeral home. 

Mary was born October 28, 1949, in Lincoln, NE to Fred George and Ruth Grace (Oltman) Janssen. She graduated from Southeast High School in Lincoln in 1968. Mary married Gary Garnick on December 4, 1971, and they resided in Ord, NE. To this union they had two daughters, Heather and Heidi, they later divorced in 1997.

Mary worked for Liberty Cleaners in Kearney and Prairie View Gardens. She enjoyed spending her time attending flea markets, and antique and garage sales and she had an eye for antiques and how they could be refinished, decorating her apartment, and spending time with her grandkids and daughters. Mary was very proud to have been sober for 39 years. She was called by a special angel to gently carry her to heaven.

Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents.
