Mary Gurney

September 21, 1914 — January 12, 2009

Hastings resident, Mary Ann Gurney, 94, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Saturday, January 17, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Village with Rev. Erica Harley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Creek Cemetery, rural Webster County, Nebraska at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 17, 2009. Visitation will be Thursday, January 15, 2009; 1:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M., Friday, January 16, 2009; 9:00 A.M.-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and Saturday, January 17, 2009, 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Oak Creek Cemetery Association, South Central Czech Society or to the family.

Mrs. Gurney was born September 21, 1914 to Francis 'Frank' Sr. & Frances 'Fannye' (Hubacek) Haba on a farm northwest of Caldwell, Kansas. She went to rural school near Caldwell. In 1929, she moved with her family to a farm northwest of Lawrence, Nebraska. Mary Ann went to high school for one year in Lawrence. She did sewing for her friends and neighbors. From 1942 to 1945, she worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot near Hastings. She married Gail Gurney on April 10, 1958 and they lived south of Bladen, Nebraska on a farm until they retired in 1987 and moved to Hastings. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2008. Mary Ann was a longtime member of the South Central Nebraska Czech Society.

Mrs. Gurney was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and one sister.

Sister-in-law: Agnes Haba - Lawrence, NE
Several Nieces, Nephews and Friends.
