Mary A. Hanson, 63, of 9315 W. Assumption Rd., Juniata, Nebraska, died Thursday, December 14, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center Skilled Care Unit, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services will be Tuesday, December 19, 2000; 11:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Kasper & Rev. Paul Konig officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Mary A. Hanson was born May 8, 1937 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Marvin E. & Norma M. (Denker) Beekman. She graduated from Axtell High School, Axtell, Nebraska in 1954. She received her AA in Elementary Education from Luther Junior College, Wahoo, Nebraska; her BA in Education from Kearney State College, Kearney, Nebraska; and her MS in Guidance & Counseling from the University of Nebraska, Kearney, Nebraska. She taught school in Shickley, Nebraska and then moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1961. She taught PE at Hastings Junior High School. On August 18, 1963, she married W. Dean Hanson at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska. She was a part-time instructor in psychology at Hastings College, and worked at Crosier Counseling Services. She was a partner at CM Counseling Services and also worked as a Mental Health Professional at Hastings College. She was an active member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a 4-H Leader for seventeen years, a member of the Human Services Coalition, Farm Bureau Women's Chair, an officer in Adams County Rural Youth and a participant in the International Foreign Youth Exchange with a tour to Europe. Her professional organizations included: American Association for Counseling and Development, Nebraska Association for Counseling and Development and Nebraska State-Wide Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) Team. She received the Outstanding Nebraska State CISD Award in 1995, Farm Bureau Woman of the Year Award and numerous 4-H Leader awards.
Mary A. Hanson was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marlene Samuelson.
