Mary D. McCall, 101, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, December 23, 2000 at Perkins Pavilion.
Burial will be Wednesday, December 27, 2000; 11:00 A.M. at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska, prior to funeral service. Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 27, 2000; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Carl W. Utley and Dr. Donald D. McCall officiating. No public viewing or visitation.
Mary D. McCall was born November 16, 1899 in Providence, Rhode Island. After college, Mary became a social worker in Brooklyn, New York and later in New Bedford, Connecticut. In 1923, she married Dr. William A. McCall and he preceded her in death. They served as missionaries of the Presbyterian Church in Syrian and Lebanon for 13 years. They returned to the United States in 1941 at the outbreak of WWII and moved to Hastings, Nebraska where Dr. McCall joined the Hastings College faculty, where he was a professor. In 1947, Mary began working with the Hastings Public School System as a visiting teacher and social worker serving as liaison with local organizations and agencies in helping children meet their varied educational and individual needs. She served on numerous civic boards and agencies including the YWCA, Salvation Army and The Nebraska Committee for Children and Youth. In 1965, she received an Appreciation Award from the Kiwanis Club for her "Unselfish devotion to the boys and girls of Hastings, Nebraska. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served for many years on the Board of Deacons. She was also a member of the Fortnightly Club and PEO sisterhood.
Mary D. McCall was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dr. William A. McCall and a son, Dr. William A. McCall Jr.
