Area resident, Mary Sears Smith, 84 died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Rosebrook Care Center, Edgar, Nebraska.

Private family services will be held.

Mary Sears Smith was born August 5, 1918 in Campbell, Nebraska to Fred & Ema (Specht) Sears. She graduated from Edgar High School, Edgar, Nebraska and from Hastings Business College in 1940. She was a long time employee of the Federal Government having worked in Washington D.C., Milwaukee, Wisconsin & Chicago, Illinois. She worked in Kobe, Japan from 1947-1948. In 1949, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she married Colonel Judson Smith. They moved back to Kobe, Japan where Colonel Smith was base commander from 1950-1953. In 1953, they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and retired to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1960. Colonel Judson Smith preceded her in death in 1988. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1995 and to Rosebrook Care Center in 1999.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lincoln, Nebraska and was active in Abendmusik Choir of First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mary Sears Smith was preceded in death by her mother, Ema Lyons, her father, Fred Sears and her husband, Colonel Judson Smith.

Survivors include,
Brother & Sister-in-law: Charles & Juanita Sears - Hastings, NE
Niece: Tam Sears Pauley - Hastings, NE
Nephew: Kipp Sears - Lincoln, NE

Memorial may be given to the campaign fund for the next European tour of the Abendmusik Choir at First Plymouth Congregational Church-Lincoln.
