Mary Volkmer

Longtime Hastings resident, Mary Volkmer, 58, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015 in Clayton, North Carolina.

Rosary will be Friday, June 5, 2015; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 6, 2015; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, lunch and reception to follow at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Centennial Hall. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. Visitation will be Friday, June 5, 2015; 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Born November 3, 1956 to Gene and Germaine Hemberger, Mary spent her grammar school years at Kenesaw, Nebraska transferring to St. Cecilia High School where she graduated in 1975. In 1976, she married Doug Volkmer and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska for 3 1/2 years, returning to Hastings in January 1980. She spent several years with her daughters before entering the workforce in food processing for 25 years. Mary and her husband then moved to Clayton, North Carolina in 2013. Mary was raised with a strong work ethic with a true devotion to Christ. She spent many hours in the adoration chapel at St. Cecilia's from the time of its origin until her departure to Clayton. Mary loved spending time with the family and traveling with her husband. Mary will be remembered most for her kind and gentle nature and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Hemberger of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
