Hastings resident, Mary Joan ”Jo” Elley, 84, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Providence Place, Hastings, NE.
Rosary is 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or Hastings Catholic Schools Foundation. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Volland and one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
Jo was born December 6, 1934, near Orleans, NE to Fred & Margaret (Colgan) Lennemann. She graduated from Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, NE. Jo married G. Roger Elley on June 12, 1956, in Orleans, NE and together they had four children, three boys and one girl; he preceded her in death on December 4, 2005.
Jo taught at Wilcox and was a para-educator at Longfellow Elementary in Hastings. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she held various offices with the Altar Society and was involved in Girl Scouts and 4-H. The church was a big part of Jo’s life, she sang in church and at weddings.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents and husband, G. Roger Elley.
