Matthew "Matt" Friend

Hastings resident Matthew R. “Matt” Friend, 64, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at his home.

Celebration of Life is 3 p.m. Thursday, December 20, at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the family to be used for an established memorial. Book signing will be 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Matt was born April 22, 1954, in Hastings, NE to Donald & Anne (Calhoun) Friend. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1972. Matt married Sue Meyer at All Saints Chapel in Hastings.

Matt owned and operated Matt Friend Truck Equipment in Hastings. He was a member of Elks, Southern Hills Golf Course, Lochland Country Club, Eagles, MWBA (Midwest BBQ Association), KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society), and SCA (Steak Cookoff Association).

In memory of Matt, when the opportunity presents itself, shake the hand of a person serving in our US military and thank them.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Katrina Sue Friend.
