Maxine Hoffman

Former area resident Maxine M. Hoffman, 98, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village, Grand Island, NE.

Services are 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Juniata United Methodist Church in Juniata with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr. Memorials may be given to Juniata United Methodist Church or The Konzack Scholarship Fund at Hastings College. Visitation with family present is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Maxine was born January 15, 1920, in Prosser, NE to Charles M. & Blanch (Stine) Goble. She graduated from Ayr High School in 1936 and attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Hastings College. Maxine married Newton H. Hoffman on June 18, 1941, in Lincoln, NE; he preceded her in death on May 19, 1979.

Maxine taught school at rural schools in the area, Holstein, District 19, and Ayr District 53. She farmed with her husband and worked in home healthcare for seven years. She was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church and was a past member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings where she was on the church board and a Sunday School teacher. She attended Methodist Women’s Circle at Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island and belonged to VIPS (Visually Impaired Persons).

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Newton H. Hoffman; and sister Adeline Daniels.
