Hastings resident Melvin Dieken, 89, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Lincoln, NE.
Rosary is 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 15, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Saturday, December 15th, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church Endowment Fund. Visitation is 1-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Mel was born December 15, 1928, near Glenvil, NE to Henry & Alvena (Mischke) Dieken. He married Dolores Zubrod on June 24, 1961. He worked for Hastings Motor Truck until his retirement. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and Eagles. Mel served in the Nebraska National Guard. Mel enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with family and friends.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores Dieken; three brothers, La Vern, Elmer and Raymond; two sisters, Leona Mitzefelt and Willemien Overy.
