Melvin E. Dow, 64, of 9225 W. 82nd St., Juniata, Nebraska, died Monday, April 12, 2004 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Thursday, April 15, 2004; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Gregory Volzke officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Mr. Dow was born January 13, 1940 in North Branch, Kansas to Lyle & Nellie (Simpson) Dow. He moved that same year, with his family, to Guide Rock, Nebraska and attended grade school in District 10 through the 8th grade. He graduated from Red Cloud High School, Red Cloud, Nebraska in 1957. He farmed for one year before entering the United States Army. He served 11 years of which 8 were in a foreign country and 3 years in Texas in the armor divisions. He married Inge Baltrausch on July 14, 1961. After his discharge in 1969, he moved to Juniata, Nebraska and delivered fuel for the Juniata Gas and Oil Coop. He later worked for Dana Corp until the time of his disability. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Juniata, Nebraska and the Kenesaw American Legion.
The request for the casket is it must contain an American flag on the inside for the great country we have to live in freedom.
Mr. Dow was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial may be given to American Lung Association or Christ Lutheran Church
