Melvin Krueger

Hastings resident, Melvin C. Krueger, 83, of 715 N. Hewett, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be Thursday, February 8, 2007; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Book signing will be Wednesday, February 7, 2007; 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home & 1 hr. prior to service on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the church. Memorial to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Crossroads Center.

Mr. Krueger was born November 20, 1923 in Blue Hill, Nebraska to Charles & Clara (Siebrass) Krueger. He was baptized & confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska. He graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1942 and served in the United States Navy during WWII from February 1944 until June 1946. On December 22, 1946, he married Alice Schlichtman. He was an operator leverman for CB & Q Railroad which merged with Burlington Northern Railroad where he was promoted to Supervisor of Data Control. He retired in 1982. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Senior Adult Fellowship, Eagles, V.F.W., UCT, American Legion, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Veterans. He was a past president of Denver region Burlington Northern Santa Fe Veterans, past secretary/treasurer & president of Local Chapter 18 of Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Veterans and a past Steward of Finance at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was also a past Cub master of Pack 207, and Scoutmaster of Troop 207 & 192. He enjoyed family, camping, boating and fishing.
