Hastings resident, Merle Anderson, 91, died Friday, October 1, 2010 at his home.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, October 5, 2010; 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Prior to the church service, private family burial with military rites will be held at Blue Valley Cemetery, rural Adams County, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Mary Lanning Hospice. Visitation will be Monday, October 4, 2010; 7:00 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. with the family present.
Merle Anderson was born March 26, 1919 in Hastings, Nebraska to F.G. and Hannah Anderson. After graduating from Hastings High School his family moved to a farm north of Ayr, Nebraska. He married Dorothy Ann Kissinger on August 9, 1941. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and was stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago as an aviation instructor. He was also an instructor at the Memphis, Tennessee Training Center. He served aboard the U.S.S. Webster in the Pacific Theater until the end of WWII. After returning home he began farming and established Triple A Ranch and raised Polled Herford cattle. He was president of the Adams County Fair Board for 18 years and served 4 terms on the Board of Governors for Central Community College. After moving to Hastings he started a real estate career with Perry Rankin Realty, later he joined Rose Realty. Merle established Merle Anderson Realty until he retired and he kept his real estate license until he was 90.
Merle Anderson was preceded in death by his parents.
