Glenvil resident, Merlyn R. Lay, 89, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.
Services will be Wednesday, May 13, 2015; 10:00 A.M. at Hanover Presbyterian Church, 8420 South Blaine Avenue, Glenvil, with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Adams County 4-H. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 12, 2015; 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Funeral Home, Hastings. Viewing will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Merlyn was born March 25, 1926 in Hastings, Nebraska to Roelf A. & Amena (DeVoogd) Lay. He graduated from Hastings High in 1942. Merlyn served in the U.S. Army. He married Leola L. Harrenstein on July 2, 1949 at Hanover Presbyterian Church; she preceded him in death on March 20, 2011. He served on the school board and was a board member of ESU. Merlyn was a farmer and livestock producer. He was a member of Hanover Presbyterian Church. He was very active in the church and served as an Elder, trustee, Deacon, and was superintendent of the Hanover Cemetery. Merlyn was a 4-H Leader and volunteer for many years. He also served numerous positions with the Nebraska Pork Producers.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brother, Albertus Lay.
