Hastings resident Mervin C. Erickson, 93, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at The Kensington in Hastings, NE.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to Adams County Golden Friendship Center (Senior Center). Visitation is Noon-5 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Mervin was born March 31, 1924, in Edgar, NE to Ebburt & Ruth (Roos) Erickson. He graduated from Edgar High School. Mervin served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 in the First Armored Division in Europe where he drove an ambulance through Italy and Germany. He married Loretta Avers on June 24, 1949, in Belleville, KS; she preceded him in death on August 19, 1994.
Mervin was employed as a service station mechanic at Pedersen Mobile Service from 1948 until 1978 and Consolidated Motor Freight from 1978 until 1992. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Adams County Golden Friendship Center (Senior Center), Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion in Hastings.
Mervin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta Erickson; two brothers, Ivan and Charles; and sister, Wilma.
