Merwyn Valentine

Hastings resident, Merwyn B. Valentine, 88, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, Nebraska.

Services with Masonic memorial tribute will be Tuesday, February 19, 2013; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Tehama Shrine Transportation Fund. Visitation will be Sunday, February 17, 2013; 3:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Monday, February 18, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Merwyn was born August 7, 1924 in Ayr, Nebraska to Henry & Gladys (Waddel) Valentine. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1942 and from the Business College in Hastings. Merwyn married Betty J. Wolfe on April 19, 1944; she preceded him in death on April 22, 2005. After graduation from high school he worked at Foote Oil for numerous years. He then started his career at the Hastings Utilities as a Meter Reader, Lineman, Line Foreman, and finally as the Electrical Superintendent until his retirement. Merwyn was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Past Master of Hastings Masonic Lodge #50 A.F. & A.M., York Rite Hastings Chapter #21, Hastings Council #8, Mt. Nebo Commandery #11, Knight York Cross of Honor, Scottish Rite, Tehama Shrine, past Potentate (1985), 50 year member of the Masons, and lifetime member of the Eagles.

Merwyn was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty J. Valentine; one brother, Waldene Valentine; one sister, Gloria Jordan; and an infant sister.
