Michael Wassinger

Hastings resident, Michael W. Wassinger, 59, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Mary Lanning HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Sunday, May 5, 2013; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 6, 2013; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation will be Sunday, May 5, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Michael was born July 14, 1953 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Benedict P. & Lola E. (Life) Wassinger. He graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic High School in May 1971 and received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in December 1975. Michael married Gladys B. Jahnke on August 20, 1977 in York, Nebraska. They moved from York to Hastings in 1985. Michael received his CPA certification on March 18, 1981. He was a Certified Public Accountant and Shareholder for McDermott & Miller, PC. Michael was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and he was active with running clubs in Hastings, Lincoln, and Omaha. He was a member of the Convention Center Facility Financing Assistance Board for the State of Nebraska giving approval for the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln as Chair of the State Board of Public Accountancy, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Nebraska Society of CPA's, Chairman and Board Member of Nebraska State Board of Public Accountancy (2006 - current), and Chairman and Board Member of Quality Enhancement Program Committee of the State Board of Public Accountancy (2000 - current).

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; and step-mother.
