Milburn Erickson Sr

March 10, 1911 — July 29, 2005

Hastings resident, Milburn W. Erickson Sr., 94, of 310 West 14th Street, died Monday, July 25, 2005 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, July 29, 2005; 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Semotan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, Nebraska.

Mr. Erickson was born March 10, 1911 on the family farm one mile southeast of Hordville, Nebraska to Peter A. And Mary S. (Benson) Erickson. He attended elementary and high school in Hordville and graduated in 1929. He was baptized and joined First Baptist Church of Hordville in 1925. On April 20, 1931 he married Esther Lorena Jones in Aurora, Nebraska. He and his brother Virgil owned and operated a grocery store in Hordville several years before moving to York. There he was employed by Montgomery Wards. In 1942 they moved to Hastings where they joined the First Baptist Church. He served on the board of Deacons and later on the board of Trustees. He was always involved in the choir and was President of the Music Committee for twenty-one years. He was Curator of Astronomy at the J. M. McDonald Planetarium at the Hastings Museum for nine years. He also taught a Junior Astronomy class. He retired in 1976. He started the first Barber Shop Quartet in Hastings, with his brother Virgil and friends Joe Ahlin and Al Penal in 1942.

Mr. Erickson was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Memorial may be given to Milburn W. Erickson Sr. Memorial Fund

Visitation: Wed. 7-27-05: 5pm - 9 pm
Thurs. 7-28-05: 9am - 9 pm
Fri. 7-29-05: 1 hr prior to service at the church
