Mildred was born October 3, 1918 to Chris & Lena (Zimmerman) Buschow. She grew up on a farm north of Blue Hill. She graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1936. She moved and worked in Hastings for the Lincoln Telephone Company. Mildred married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Schulz, on December 10, 1942 while he was home on furlough during World War II. They lived in Galveston, Texas until Marvin's discharge in 1945. They then moved to Hastings where they spent the rest of their lives together working and raising a family. Mildred was a homemaker with a deep sense of loyalty and dedication to her family and church. As a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church she served many years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was active in Church Circle, WELCA, and volunteer duties. She served years as a 4-H leader. In her spare time she enjoyed music, square dancing, walking, and family trips together. She loved to play games and cards of all kinds. The grandkids would say, "Here comes Grams, get out the cards and dominos." She was affectionately known to many as "Shorty."
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and husband of nearly 70 years, Marvin.
