Mildred Maxine South was born on August 4, 1927 in Blue Hill, Nebraska to Otto and Nettie (Lohrenz) Madsen. She attended Blue Hill Community School and graduated from Blue Hill High School in May 1944. She lived and worked in Adams County her entire adult life. She worked at Daltons Café and the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings. She married Harold Dean South in Hastings on September 20, 1947. Mildred worked for several grocery stores as a checker prior to retiring at age 60. She worked for: OP Skaggs, Jack and Jill, and also Jack and Jill Hillcrest. She was a good Nebraska Husker fan and very much enjoyed Hastings Legion baseball. She passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at her home in Hastings. Her memorial service will be Friday, July 11, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at Second Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska. Rev. Dr. David McCarthy will be officiating. There is no visitation.
In her earlier years, she was quite active in the Second Presbyterian Church. Her love and caring warmth will be greatly missed by her family. Please direct memorials to the Second Presbyterian Church or the Hastings American Legion Baseball program.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Madsen.
