Milford Auker

Hastings resident, Milford L. "Mel" Auker, 93, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society-Villa, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, February 18, 2017; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Society-Villa, Hastings, Nebraska . Visitation will be Friday, February 17, 2017; 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Mel was born May 28, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Walter & Lena (Robbing) Auker. He graduated from Hastings High School. Mel served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a ball turret gunner on a B-17during World War II. He married June Haack on May 24, 1947. They moved in 1950 to Hastings from Harvard and were married for over 69 years.

Mel was employed as a meat cutter for Allen's and O.P. Skaggs, and was a chemical worker for Farmland Industries for 15 years, until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and American Association of Retired Persons.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby & Bud Smith and Jewel & Les Dunn.
