Jane Wilson Bell was born May 23, 1912 in Valley County, a few miles south of Ord, Nebraska to Oliver 'Ollie' Perry Rugh & Alice Brown (Gray) Bell. She was the middle of three children. Her brothers, both deceased, were Rev. Moore Gray Bell & Dr. Gordon Dale Bell. Moore was a Presbyterian minister. Gordon was a physician, and in retirement, served in mission work in South America. She grew up in Mira Valley. She and her family were very active in Wilson Presbyterian Church in Mira Valley. That church closed in 1926. Jane's father purchased the church building and the manse. He tore them down and transported the lumber to Hastings, Nebraska where he used the lumber and his skills as a carpenter to build the house and garage that still stand at 1103 E. 9th Street. The family moved into that house. Jane has lived in Hastings from that time until her death. Jane finished her high school education at Hastings College, where she (and her brother Gordon) was one of the students in a laboratory high school for teacher training. Then she secured her degree in nursing from Mary Lanning Nurses School, later going to Hastings College to earn her bachelor's degree. She was a surgical nurse for many years at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska and later a nurse at the medical complex at Ingleside, just west of Hastings. She never married, but felt very close to her brother's families and other members of her larger family. She shared an apartment all her adult life with her good friend Miss Sarita Wilson. Jane was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church during all of her Hastings years.

Jane W. Bell was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.
