Affectionately known as "Nana," Moy S. Dudrey, 93, of Hastings died Monday, July 4, at Mary Lanning Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Born November 13, 1917, at Rowden TX, Moy was the fourth of the twelve children of Norbon and Emma Sikes. One sister died in infancy; all other siblings lived long lives as committed Christian servants, continuing the heritage of faith passed down from Papa and Mama Sikes. Moy touched many by her life of loving and generous Christian service. To the end of her days she was bright and cheerful, loving and generous and funny. The faith and the goodness in which she lived and died remove much of the sting of her passing.
After graduating from Abilene Christian College in 1939, Moy taught school for two years in Carrizozo NM, where she met Reid A. Dudrey and married him in July 1941. Soon after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Reid enlisted in the US Navy. Moy followed Reid to San Francisco, where he was trained and shipped out to serve in the South Pacific on the submarine USS Guardfish. She spent the war years waiting for him in San Francisco.
On Reid's return they lived for years in Los Angeles, then in Reno NV, where he worked for the Forest Service and she taught third grade. After retirement they moved to Portland OR to be with their children and grandchildren; Reid died there in 1986. In 2002 Moy moved to York NE to live with her son Russell's family, then in 2009 she moved with them to Hastings, where Russell serves as a minister.
She is survived by six brothers and sisters, by her sons Alan and Russell and their wives Margaret and Felice, and by five grandchildren: Alan and Margaret's sons Jonathan and Michael, and Russ and Felice's children Paul (with his wife Kacy), Rachel (with her husband Matthew Miller), and Michal.
The family will bury her ashes in Portland alongside Reid's grave. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at the Hastings Church of Christ, 12th and Laird Streets, at 10:30 AM Thursday, with her son Russell officiating; the family will be available for visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 AM Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial gifts to the Marcum Ecuador Fund, Southwest Church of Christ, 1635 S. Pueblo Blvd., Pueblo CO 81005, or to the House of Compassion Ministry, 632 2nd St. SW, Rochester MN 55902. Moy was a long-time supporter of these Christian ministries.
