Nancy Breunig

Hastings resident, Nancy Jane Breunig, 64, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis for nearly 23 years.

Rosary will be Friday, March 22, 2013; 7:30 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, 1225 N. Elm Avenue, Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 23, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 715 Creighton Avenue, Hastings with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Davey, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the family for caregivers who have provided care for Nancy. There will be no viewing or visitation. Book signing will be Thursday, March 21, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Friday, March 22, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Nancy was born July 10, 1948 in Ceresco, Nebraska to James V. & Dorothy (Graff) Mara. She graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo, Nebraska, in 1970 she received her Bachelors Degree in Dietetics from University of Nebraska Lincoln, and she received her Masters of Science in Education Degree from Indiana University/Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Nancy married Charles "Chuck" Breunig on July 17, 1970 in Wahoo, Nebraska. She worked at the Hastings Regional Center in Hastings as the Food Service Director and retired in 1993 due to her health. Nancy was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, seamstress work, baking, and she rode her bike across the State of Iowa in the RAGBRAI two times and the second trip was with her then 13 year old son Matt. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her 2 grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
