Hastings resident Nicholas Adam “Nick” Herringer, 24, passed away to his heavenly home on Friday, May 3, 2024, at his home after a courageous nine-year battle with pediatric brain cancer.
Nick was born on March 29, 2000, in Hastings, NE to Jay and Tammy (Chaon) Herringer. Nick was a member and lifelong attender of the Berean Bible Church in Hastings where he was baptized on June 19, 2016. He attended Hastings Public Schools where he later graduated from Hastings High School in 2018.
Nick was a wonderful son and an amazing brother, but “Uncle” was the title he cherished the most. Nick loved Husker football, Jim Carey movies, pepperoni pizza, muscle cars, and rock and roll. He also loved to collect pocket knives. Family and friends of Nick will remember his easygoing personality, his witty sarcasm, and his contagious laugh. He was a friend to everyone he met and he always greeted you with a high five or a thumbs up.
Nick became a huge advocate for the Team Jack Foundation after his diagnosis of pediatric brain cancer. He faced his battle with such grace and he inspired countless individuals with his steadfast faith.
Nick will be greatly missed.
Nick was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Donald Chaon and Darrell Herringer.
He leaves to mourn his death, but rejoice in his eternal life: parents, Jay & Tammy Herringer of Hastings, NE; sister, Makenna Herringer of Hastings, NE; nephew, Easton Barribo of Hastings, NE; grandmothers, Carolyn Chaon and Arla Herringer of Hastings, NE; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, Team Jack family, hospital family, church family, and numerous friends.
We grieve, but not as those who have no hope, for our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at Berean Bible Church with Pastor Paul Knott officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, Nick would love for memorials to be directed to sponsor a child in the Awana program at the church of your choice or to the Team Jack Foundation for pediatric brain cancer research. Awana is an outreach ministry to teach children about Jesus. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website.
