Opal Mosier

Hastings resident, Opal Edna (Reyer) Mosier, 87, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Mary Lanning HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, May 23, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or Hastings Public Library. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Opal was born December 3, 1925 in Almena, Kansas. She was the daughter of William & Mabel (Jarvis) Reyer. Opal was a graduate of Davenport High School. She taught in a one-room country school near Davenport. LaVern Mosier and Opal were united in marriage on October 31,1943 in Davenport, Nebraska. In 1954, the family moved to Hastings where Opal resided the rest of her life. In 1989, Opal retired from Lawless Distributing Company of Hastings as an office manager. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and had been a volunteer at Mary Lanning Hospital. Her greatest joy was her family. She was an avid reader and appreciated the services of the Hastings Public Library. She and LaVern enjoyed traveling, often camping.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVern Mosier; son, David Mosier, infant daughter, Janice Mosier; and granddaughters, Cynthia Garber, Whitney Parr, Ashley Parr, and Christina Parr; great-grandson, Kaleb Parr; sister, Beulah Slagowski; brother, Bill Reyer; and step-father, Harlo Staub.
