Orville Burge

Former Hastings resident, Orville D. Burge, 88, of Golden Living Center Lakeview, Grand Island, Nebraska, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Center.

Services will be Wednesday, August 26, 2009; 2:00P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska with Carla Burge officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to Blue Valley Cemetery Association. Visitation will be Monday 5-9 P.M., Tuesday 9A.M. - 9P.M. and Wednesday 9A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Orville Burge was born December 23, 1920 to Arthur & La Duska (Hemstead) Burge on a farm in Adams County near Bladen, Nebraska. He attended Fairview District #30 grade school. On January 3, 1945 he married Hazel Gingrich in Bladen, Nebraska. He worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads, Juniata Feed Yards and raised horses and cattle. Orville and Hazel moved to Hastings in 2001from Ayr. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Harness Hustler Club and rode in the Pony Express rides. Orville enjoyed riding in parades in Webster and Adams County, going to auctions and livestock sales.

Orville D. Burge was preceded in death by his parents, daughter & son-in-law, Kay and Merle Sherman, four brothers Wesley, Lester, Ernie, Glen and three sisters Hazel, Florence and Faye.
