Hastings resident, Orville James "Jim" Taylor, 76, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 at his home.
Memorial Services with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014; 11:00 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel with Father Patrick Barvick officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Genoa Cemetery, Genoa, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2014; 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Orville "Jim" Taylor was born November 2, 1937 to Orville Henry & Anna (Lowe) Taylor, the fifth of ten children. He went to a country grade school and graduated from Genoa High School in 1955. He joined the U.S. Navy in February 1956 to February 1960. In the Navy he was AE-2 Aircraft Electrician. He went to schools at Norman, Oklahoma and Jacksonville, Florida. He was stationed at Alameda, California (VA-95) and Moffet Field San Jose, California (VR8), Far East Cruise on USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14). Jim worked at various jobs between Genoa, Newman Grove and Columbus. He married Bonnie Koziol in July 1962. Having worked at Montgomery Ward Tire Department they moved to Hastings, Nebraska to work at the Montgomery Ward there. He then worked at Footes Tire Store before going to Metz Barking Company as a driver then a fleet supervisor. He retired there after 27 ½ years. After retirement he held various part-time jobs. He belonged to the Eagles, Retired Teamsters, and Good Sam Camping Clubs. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and NASCAR races, going to Texas every year.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Chet & John; brothers-in-law, Veryl Andreason, Richard Peterson & Bud Francis; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Taylor; and sister, Rachael Baue.
