Known as Pat, and more recently as “Grandma Pat” by almost everyone who knew her, she leaves a big hole in the hearts of her loved ones. Known for her love of laughter and a good time, she spent her life surrounded by friends and family. Born in Hastings on March 15, 1933 (The Ides of March, she always stated), she grew up in the community attending St. Cecilia School throughout her school years. She later attended Hastings College.
She married Edward Haase, also of Hastings on February 13, 1954, and they later moved to San Diego for Ed’s service in the Marine Corp and later to the Salinas and Monterrey Bay Area of California.
After a transfer to Dallas, she and Ed made their home in Farmers Branch, Texas and made lifelong friends in the area. They were known for hosting legendary parties and get-togethers, and for hob-knobbing the Who’s Who of Dallas. Pat was in her element and just thrived! She loved games and puzzles and reading and fittingly, with her love of reading, she made a career as “The Peoples” Librarian in Carrollton and Farmer’s Branch. The relationships she made in years and years at the library lasted her entire life! Even the nurses at the nursing home said, when they would confide in Grandma Pat things that may be going on in their life, her sweet solution was always, “You need to read a good book!”
Pat is survived by her son Wes Haase, her son Andy Haase, and her daughter in law Christine Haase. She has 2 grandchildren, Amanda Dunlap, and Christopher Haase. She has one great granddaughter, Quinn Dunlap (Quinny). Pat’s love of her grandchildren was one of the things she is best known for. Pat’s nieces also gave her great joy, and she enjoyed seeing them as often as possible… usually at a party!
Quite simply, Grandma Pat was the very best!!
A celebration of her life will follow the graveside service, where good food, good wine and countless stories will be shared.
