Paul Hohnstein

March 13, 1918 — September 28, 2004

Hastings resident, Paul J. Hohnstein ,86, of 1318 Spanish Trail, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at his home.

Services will be Monday, October 4, 2004; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. William Deahl, Jr. & Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska.

Mr. Hohnstein was born March 13, 1918 in Hastings, Nebraska to John & Christine M. (Hessler) Hohnstein. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1936 and on January 17, 1940, her married Janis M. Hayes. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1996. In 1982, he was inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement, and in 1991 he received the Hastings Chamber 'Aggie Award', in 1992 the Nebraska Water Conference Council 'Pioneer Irrigation Award', in 1995 the Nebraska 'Entrepreneur of the Year' and in 1997, the Nebraska Diplomats 'Outstanding Nebraska Industry Award'. He was the founder of Hastings Irrigation Pipe Company and a member of First United Methodist Church, past member of Lochland Country Club and Just for Fun Car Club. He was also one of the founding board members of the Hastings Community Foundation and Central Community College.

Mr. Hohnstein was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Janis, son, Robert, great grandson, Zachary Beirow, two brothers, Henry & Adam and two sisters, Katharina Hohnstein and Pauline Kniss.
