Penny Catlett of Hastings passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 while surrounded by family at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska. She was 61.
Services will be Saturday, February 25, 2012; 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Fund for a more "Welcoming and Accessible Church for All" or your choice to one of the organizations that Penny served.
Penny was born on April 28, 1950 to Averill & LaDene (Wheeler) Hudnall in Imperial, Nebraska. She was joyfully raised on the "Happy Daze" Hudnall Family Farm and graduated in 1968 from Chase County High School. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, and graduated with honors and degrees in sociology and religion. Penny married Dr. Fred Catlett on June 19, 1971. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska and had a daughter, Jennie. Aggressive rheumatoid arthritis was her constant companion for over 30 years, but Penny always had a smile and a positive attitude. A person of faith, Penny was very active in the First United Methodist Church. She was also active in the League of Women Voters, the YWCA Board, Stephens Ministries, PEO GK Chapter, Book Club, the Ecumenical Institute, Medical Auxiliary and the Hastings Family Planning Board. Penny was honored in 1998 with the Tribute to Women's Award from the YWCA. Penny's service was limited only by physical disabilities. Penny passed away while surrounded by family at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. She will be missed by many.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Jan Hudnall.
