Hastings resident Philip F. “Phil” Werner Jr., 71, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in Omaha, NE.
Christian Funeral Rite will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 6, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Thomas Brouillette officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with a reception to immediately follow at Lochland Country Club. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hastings Catholic Schools Foundation, Hastings College, or the Hastings Community Foundation. Phil was born January 18, 1952, in Hastings, NE to Philip Sr. and Jaqueline (Huckfeldt) Werner. He graduated from Hastings High School and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Phil married Colleen Ann Bassett on February 5, 1983. They were married over 40 years prior to Phil’s passing.
Phil was President of Werner Construction, Inc., where he worked from childhood until his death. He took immense pride in all the people at the company and his work gave him purpose and joy. He served on the board of the Association of General Contractors – Nebraska Chapter from 1985-2016, and received the SIR Award in 2019. He was also a former board member of the Nebraska Concrete Aggregates Association and Nebraska Concrete Paving Association. He was on the Hastings College Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2015 and was an honorary trustee from 2015 until his death. He served on the board of Lochland Country Club and was previously a partner at Motor Sports Park of Hastings. Phil was active in the community and supportive of many organizations and causes in Hastings and greater Nebraska. The most important thing in Phil’s life was his family, extended family, and all his colleagues at Werner Construction.
