Hastings resident, Philip F. Werner, Sr., 88, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his home.
Requiem Eucharist will be Tuesday, December 30, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings with The Very Rev. Catherine Scott officiating. Graveside service with military rites by American Legion Post #87 Mills-Schroder, will be Tuesday, December 30, 2014; 2:00 P.M. at Clay Center Cemetery, Clay Center, Nebraska. Following a Celebration of Life will be held 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Lochland Country Club, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014; 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Mary Lanning Hospice, or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Philip was born December 24, 1926 in Fairfield, Nebraska to George K. & Marie (Wolfe) Werner. He graduated from Clay Center High School with the class of 1945 and attended Hastings College. Philip served in the U.S. Navy from December 1944 until August 1946. He married Jacqueline Huckfeldt on September 5, 1948. In 1965 they moved to Hastings from Clay Center. He was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral. Philip was involved in many civic organizations and was past President and life member of AGC of Nebraska, past member of Board of Trustees for Hastings College, past board member of several banks, American Legion in Clay Center, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hastings. Philip was a member of Mid-West Lodge #317 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Tehama Shrine and Past Potentate in 1976. He enjoyed model radio controlled planes, trains, and boats. Philip was a longtime pilot and an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law: Marvella and Gene Burmester.
