Phillip Dudley, Sr

Hastings resident, Phillip Lee Travers Dudley, Sr., 81, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings Ave., died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 28, 2004; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Dr. William G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Private family burial in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska.

Mr. Dudley was born May 2, 1922 in Church Hill, Maryland to Norman & Clara (Walls) Dudley. He graduated from Church Hill High School, Church Hill, Maryland and attended Washington College, Chestertown, Maryland. He was a lieutenant in the United States Navy during WWII and flew a B-24 Liberator. He was awarded the distinguished flying cross. He married Margaret K. Koger on May 29, 1945. After his discharge, he began working in retail for Western Auto in Oklahoma and Kansas. He later served as a warehouse manager for Western Auto in Wichita, Kansas, Jacksonville, Florida and Salina, Kansas. He worked for Western Auto for 40 years. He was an active member of the Mentor United Methodist Church in Mentor, Kansas and served on the Cheney, Kansas School Board and Water Board for Assaria, Kansas. He was a volunteer tax preparer for AARP. He moved from Assaria, Kansas to Hastings, Nebraska in 2002.

Mr. Dudley was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles & Eugene, three sisters, Clara Griffin, Margaret Ann Dixon and Eleanor Dudley.

Memorial may be given to Mary Lanning Cancer Center
