Phyllis Davis

Former Hastings resident, Phyllis I. (Shafer) Davis, 76, of 302 North 'B' St., Fairfield, Nebraska, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Monday, May 8, 2006; 10:30 A.M. at the Community Presbyterian Church, Fairfield, Nebraska, with Rev. Lloyd Boyce officiating. Burial will be Monday, May 8, 2006; 2:00 P.M. in Rosedale Cemetery, Hall County, Nebraska.

Mrs. Davis was born May 19, 1929 in the family home in Rosemont, Nebraska to Simon & Rose E. (Bruns) VanBoening. She was baptized into the Christian faith in 1929 and was confirmed in 1942. She graduated from Blue Hill High School, Blue Hill, Nebraska in 1946. She then began a career as a rural school teacher at District 30 in Adams County. On May 22, 1949, she married Glenn R. Shafer in Hastings, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on August 19,1976. They were blessed with four children, Ronald, David, Pat & Kathy. In addition to teaching, she worked at Harmon Grain, Trumbull Co-op, Norwest Bank, Stuehrenberg Insurance Agency, Pioneer Seed Company and Good Samaritan Village. She was a member of Rosedale United Methodist Church for 50 years, where she served as UMW President, Choir Director, Sunday School teacher and was active in various other community organizations. On November 7, 1998, she married Wayne A. Davis at Rosedale United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Fairfield Community Presbyterian Church at the time of her death. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as, camping, baking, playing the piano, singing and dancing.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn R. Shafer; a son, Ronald G. Shafer; two brothers, Lloyd & Fred VanBoening and two sisters, Eda Koepke and Irma Pender.
