Phyllis Faber

Lifetime Hastings resident Phyllis Faber, 95, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska. 

 Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Craig Clinch officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. with the family present 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website.  Adeline Phyllis (Marquardt) Faber was born October 8, 1929 to Jesse and Katherine (Niederhaus) Marquardt in Hastings. Phyllis married Robert P. Faber at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings on February 3, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1995. Following graduation from Hasting Senior High School in 1947, Phyllis worked at A. H. Jones Company. When her children were all enrolled in school, she went to work for Kealy Construction Co. and then was co-owner and Secretary/Treasurer with her husband at Faber Gas and Appliance Service for 28 years until retiring in 1991.

 Phyllis was an excellent cook and host, seamstress, crafter, and former Boy Scout leader, always taking care of her family. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Altar Society, Hastings Women’s Bowling Association, Auxiliary Member at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, and Adams County Historical Society where her special interest was in her Germans from Russia heritage.

 After retirement, Phyllis enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bob and later with friends on bus excursions and also casino visits with family. Among her other hobbies were gardening and canning, reading, bowling, playing cards, and working the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper.

 Phyllis lived in her home on University Street for over 70 years. She had resided at the College View assisted living for the past year and a half where she earned a well-deserved pampered life. Rest in Peace, you have earned it.

 Survivors are two daughters, Susan (Richard) Abraham of Hastings, and Karen (Delmer) Westerbuhr of Oshkosh, Nebraska; three sons, Stephen (Charlene) Faber of Brule, Nebraska, Wayne Faber of Hastings, and Russell Faber of Hastings; nine grandchildren: Sarah Westerbuhr (Dana Sedin), Kristen Bousquet (Greg), Steve Westerbuhr (Tara), Matthew Abraham (Meg), Jessie Faber, Travis Faber, Tyler Faber (Teresa), Katie Drey (Alec), and Emmie Castillo (Carlos); 11 great-grandchildren: Erin, Jenna, Elena, Sam, Ben, Paige, Grant, Hazel, Otis, Maisie, and Adeline; former daughter-in-law, Andrea Faber of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Jan Marquardt of Lakewood, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

 Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, Robert P. Faber; great-granddaughter, Kaylie Faith Bousquet; two brothers, Richard Marquardt and Ronald Marquardt
