Hastings resident, Phyllis Marjorie (Thaden) Rice, 94, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, February 2, 2018; 2:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family or donor's choice. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Phyllis was born December 15, 1923, to Henry Herman and Catherine Marie (Post) Thaden at the family farmstead located just south of Doniphan, Nebraska.
In May 1923, she was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Doniphan, Nebraska. The fall of 1929, Phyllis started school at Hall County District 46 and received her 8th grade diploma in May 1937. She was received into full communion with the Lutheran Church by the solemn rite of confirmation on May 16, 1937. Phyllis graduated from Doniphan High School in May 1941. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Hastings and worked for a short time at a café and at the hospital. From 1942 to 1944, she worked as a checker for Safeway Stores.
December 14, 1946, she married James M. Rice. Phyllis spent her entire married life living in Texas and then moved back to Hastings about 1988.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eleanor Poen.
